Measures - 5.8 x 2.6 inches (14.5 x 6.5 cms)

Saigon Art - Lottery Ticket - Vietnam War

Republic of Vietnam National Development Lottery ticket from the Vietnam War era, valued today for its bold front artwork. Printed in vivid colours on thin period paper, it features idealised scenes of South Vietnamese life and development, framed by ornate borders, denominations, and official markings.

The result is a striking example of mid-20th-century Vietnamese graphic design, well suited for framing as a compact historical art piece.

7 July 1970 - Le Van Duyet Tomb - Saigon

The title “Xổ Số Kiến Thiết Quốc Gia” translates to “National Development Lottery.” Issued in 1970.

The banner “Nước độc lập dân ấm no” translates as “An independent nation, a prosperous people.”

The central image depicts the Lăng Đức Tả Quân Lê Văn Duyệt (the Tomb of Lê Văn Duyệt) in Saigon, a prominent historical and cultural monument.

Printed in Saigon by Mai Linh Ấn Quán in 1970.

(Lê Văn Duyệt (1764–1832) was a powerful Nguyễn-dynasty general and long-time governor of Gia Định (Saigon), remembered for stabilising the south and ruling it with broad autonomy.

After his death he was condemned by Emperor Minh Mạng, but remained revered by southern Vietnamese. His tomb, Lăng Ông Bà Chiểu is in Gia Định Park.)

Rear of Ticket

Standard printed reverse of a Republic of Vietnam National Development Lottery ticket issued by the Saigon government during the Vietnam War era.

The text is headed “Xổ-Số Kiến-Thiết Quốc-Gia,” citing its legal basis under Decree No. 651-Cab/PR of 21 December 1951, and sets out the official prize structure in South Vietnamese đồng, from the main prize through multiple lower and consolation awards.

A notice states that prizes must be claimed within six months of the draw date, after which unclaimed winnings were transferred to the national development or public treasury fund.

The draw date and issue classification (“Loại”) are printed at the bottom, with simple typography and occasional official stamping typical of South Vietnamese government printing of the period.
