»Auf Ex«, the first studio album in 12 years, has now been recorded and produced by Michael Danielak and Franky Kühnlein in the Backyard / Schallsucht studio in Hagen - and Hagen plays an even bigger role here than was previously the case with the texts of the Hamburg native Havaii: »Where I was born / there are no hipsters drawn there/... Everywhere you look, broken dreams." The opener “Die Fressen aus dem Pott” is available in advance on August 13th, 2020 as a single “We will not die in beauty and never pass it on / We are the Fressen aus dem Pott, made by the good Lord…”. Self-reflective songs like "Forward through Time", where aging as a band or as a private individual is discussed as nonchalantly as this Havaii tone of voice conveys, never becomes pompous here, as the singer manages to feel positive and negative things at the same time and to transcribe this in a few four-to-the-floor lines.
Whether consumed “on ex” or in the wingback chair with a meerschaum pipe and selected grapes: the new Extrabreit (their 13th) contains 13 songs and will be released on November 13th, 2020. And that's damn good news. “His Majesty Death” should kindly take a back seat.
