The Dutch-Belgian band Gare du Nord was formed in early 2001 when producers Doc (Ferdi Lancee) & Inca (Barend Fransen) were asked by a French promoter to provide the soundtrack for a fashion and lifestyle event in Brussels called "Excellence". Instead of limiting themselves to moody sounds and loungey atmospheres, the two decided to go beyond synths and beats and composed a song cycle in three weeks that expresses their interpretation of traditional Delta blues and urban jazz.
The debut album "In Search Of Excellounge" was originally released in June 2001 and received gold status shortly afterwards. The album features the lead-off hit single "Pablo's Blues", which is dominated by the dobro riffs of Lancee and the voice of blues legend Robert Johnson.
In Search Of Excellounge is available on black vinyl and includes an insert.
