On February 1, 2019, a meteor was seen above Florida before ending its trajectory in Cuba.
It was 1:17 p.m. (local time) when black rocks fell on the town of Viñales, some as big as your fists (between 20 and 30 cm). It's a meteor shower, a scene worthy of a disaster movie.
In broad daylight this fall is observed and filmed by many people. The detonation, accompanied by a long trail of smoke, was heard in neighboring towns in the province of Pinar Del Rio.
The first meteorite and some of the largest specimens are found near the "Mural of Prehistory" monument by artist Leovigildo Gonzalez Morillo.
Throughout the Viñales valley the “meteorite hunt is on”. It will be found in the ground, on the road as well as the roofs of houses and buildings.
