Margie Joseph was never a star in Soul, she was never as well known as Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Chaka Khan or Tina Turner. But she is a talented, charming singer whose voice is recognized. Although she was strongly influenced by Aretha Franklin, she has a gentler, girlish impact. Joseph left Stax in 1972 and signed at Atlantic. She published her self -titled LP the following year. Produced by Arif Mardin, Joseph shows an appealing mix of the Northern and Southern Soul varieties. A large part of the album is devoted to cover versions and the songs that Joseph offers here, range from Ellington Jordan's "I'd Rather Go Blind" to Al Greens "Let's Stay Together" to Brook Benton's "i'll Take Care of You". She also selects a Dolly Parton song and interpreted "Touch Your Woman" in a soulful way.
