This Spode Archive Collection, Tradition Series, ‘Castle’ plate is in beautifully pristine condition!
Note : On the back, near the edge there are 3 small rub marks where the plate hanger rubbed the gloss (see photos.)
Archive collection origins - The plates are part of a collection that draws inspiration from Spode's extensive archives, which contain a vast number of historical patterns, many of which were originally created in the 18th and 19th centuries.
Series launch - The Traditions Series was launched in 1987, specifically to re-release and reinterpret these historic designs for a new generation.
Manufacturing process - The designs are applied to the plates using the underglaze transferware technique, which involves printing from a hand-engraved copper plate onto the ceramic before it is glazed and fired.
Original pattern introduction: Some of the original designs, such as the "Castle" pattern, date back to the early 1800s (around 1806). Other designs in the series, like "Lucano" and "Caramanian," were also first introduced historically between the early 19th century and the 20th century.
I also have other Spode Archive Collection plates in separate listings. Shipping can be combined for purchase of multiple items.
