The Dutch-Belgian band Gare Du Nord was created in early 2001 when the producers Doc (Ferdi Lancee) & Inca (barend fringe) were asked by a French organizer to provide the soundtrack for a fashion and lifestyle event in Brussels entitled "Excellence". Instead of restricting themselves to atmospheric sounds and lounge atmospheres, the two decided to go beyond synths and beats and composed a song cycle in three weeks that expresses their interpretation of the traditional Delta blues and urban jazz.

The debut album "In Search of Excelluna" was originally released in June 2001 and received gold status shortly afterwards. The album contains the lead-off hits single "Pablo's Blues", which is dominated by the Dobro riffs by Lancee and the voice of blues legend Robert Johnson.

In Search of Excelluna, black vinyl is available and contains a side dish.
