In the 1983-84 NBA season, the Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics met each other in the NBA Finals for the first time in the Magic Johnson and Larry Bird era. The series went like all of the teams� matchups in the past, with the Celtics prevailing. The Lakers went into the 1984-85 season determined to avenge this finals loss. Johnson put together another stellar year, averaging 18.3 points, 12.6 assists, and 6.2 rebounds per game, good enough to make the All-NBA First Team. After a 62-20 regular season record, The Lakers easily got through the Western Conference in the playoffs to set up a rematch with the Celtics. Despite getting blown out in Game 1, the Lakers outlasted the Celtics in six games, defeating their rival in the Finals for the first time in franchise history. Wearing these away jerseys, the Lakers became the first team to ever clinch the NBA Finals on the Celtics� court. With 18.3 points, 14 assists, and 6.8 rebounds per game, including two triple-doubles and four double-doubles, Johnson won his third career championship. Both Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar considered this Finals win the highlight of their storied careers.
