Issued in 1988 by World Wide Sports, The Sporting News Publishing Company, and Baseball Superstars Inc., this fine 24 card series features a select All-Star team from the 1933 AMERICAN League season. Each card features a photograph captured by the camera of Charles Martin Conlon and each features the superb writing of TSN's historian Paul MacFarlane. (You'll actually learn a great deal by reading the backs of these cards - after you enjoy the Conlon imagery!) The players selected include official American League all-stars of 1933 but also other selections of The Sporting News, then considered the Baseball authority. Cards
are standard (2-1/2" by 3-1/2") size. We have displayed these 24
cards in two scans: The first shows the 14 players who have been elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame while the second displays the remaining ten 1933 all-stars as selected by The Sporting News. Players included in the series are: Babe Ruth* ~ Lou Gehrig* ~ Jimmie Foxx* ~ Bill Dickey* ~ H. Earl Averill* ~ Joe Kuhel ~ Mickey Cochrane* ~ Luke Appling* ~ Charlie Gehringer* ~ Al Simmons* ~ Heinie Manush* ~ Joe Cronin* ~ Lefty Grove* ~ Tony Lazzeri* ~ Lefty Gomez* ~ Earl Whitehill ~ Mike "Pinky" Higgins ~ Mel Harder ~ Tommy Bridges ~ Roy Johnson ~ Ben Chapman ~ Johnny Hodapp ~ Evar Swanson ~ Alvin Crowder - American Leaguers all, including 14 Hall of Famers! Hall of Famers are denoted by (*) following their name. Condition: Generally Excellent to Near-Mint; however, the Jimmie Foxx card usually shows considerable wear on the front due to unusually rough mishandling and/or contact with rubber-banding. Also, the Tom Bridges card frequently rates only Very Good due to post-production handling. _______________________ Important: Shipping Information Our goal has always been to keep shipping costs low.
