Melitopol engines, which were used on ZAZ and Daewoo cars, can hardly be called outstanding, but they are native, easily repaired, and spare parts for them cost little money - therefore, they still have their advantages. Plus, with the necessary post-factory modifications, the engines become quite reliable.

All that is needed for this is to minimize the number of consumables and parts with "floating" quality. If we talk about the cooling system, then the group of temporary ones includes all kinds of pipes and tees, which even with minor damage can cause big trouble.  A slight coolant leak through a crack or rust - and the engine starts to overheat, oil - gets where it shouldn't.
