On October 28, 1944, the liberation of Ukraine from the fascist invaders was completed. This happened in Transcarpathia, where under the onslaught of the troops of the 4th Ukrainian Front, the last unit of the Hitlerite Wehrmacht left our land. 

On March 22, 1993, by the Decree of the President of Ukraine “On the nationwide celebration of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Ukraine from the fascist invaders”, among other events, a commemorative sign “50 years of the liberation of Ukraine” was established to award war participants living in Ukraine, as well as liberators of Ukraine living outside its borders.
