The brake caliper is a critical component of your vehicle's braking system. It houses the brake pads and pistons, converting hydraulic pressure from the master cylinder into mechanical force that clamps the pads against the rotors to slow or stop your vehicle. Working Principle 

The brake caliper operates using hydraulic pressure. When you press the brake pedal, brake fluid is forced from the master cylinder through the brake lines and into the caliper. This pressure pushes the piston(s) outward, which presses the brake pads against the brake rotor. The friction between the pads and rotor slows the wheel's rotation, bringing the vehicle to a stop.

In floating caliper designs, the caliper body slides on pins, allowing the piston to press the inner pad while the caliper body pulls the outer pad against the rotor. In fixed caliper designs, pistons on both sides of the rotor apply pressure simultaneously.

Installation Tips

1. Vehicle Safety – Always securely support the vehicle with jack stands on level ground. Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack.

2. Brake Fluid Handling – Brake fluid is corrosive to paint and harmful if ingested. Use caution and clean up spills immediately. 

3. Caliper Mounting – Ensure mounting surfaces are clean and free of rust or debris. Apply anti-seize compound to mounting bolts if specified by manufacturer.

4. Brake Line Connection – Use new copper washers or sealing rings when connecting brake lines to prevent leaks. Tighten to manufacturer specifications.

5. Brake Pad Installation – Install new brake pads with the caliper. Apply brake grease to pad contact points as specified.

6. Bleeding the Brakes – After installation, properly bleed the brake system to remove air. Air in the system can cause a spongy pedal and reduced braking performance.

7. Bedding-In Procedure – Follow the manufacturer's bedding-in procedure for new brake pads and rotors to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
