Unusual hand drawn menus titled “912” Recovery Banquet. Based on the two illustrations, it would appear that one shows an older woman depicted with her “guardian angel” comforting her in front of what must have been her childhood home that is still smoking from a fire. The second image shows the same woman conducting an orchestra or band which also includes her “guardian angel” at the left side, no doubt a good friend. the musicians are rendered probably represent a group of friends how have been supportive. Possibly these were made for a “fund raiser” dinner for the unfortunate woman...a sign at the right reads “Home Sweet Home.” The menu includes a Canape Anchovy with Almonds, Olives & Celery; Roast Fillet of Beef, Mushrooms, Patotoes (sic) au Gratin, Corn; Salad, Vegetable, Cheese loaf; Desert, Ice Cream, Cake, Coffee, Bon-Bons. It is hand dated at the bottom August 22, 1934. Each menu is hand lettered and drawn with pen & ink and watercolor. Each menu is tipped to a card stock and measures 9 1/4 x 6 inches. Acquired in the Ithaca, New York area.
