BLOCK PRINT CURTAIN PANEL - Authentic hand block printed Kalamkari curtain panel. Panel measures approximately 46 inches wide x 88 inches long and has a 2 inch rod pocket. Made of 100% quality power-loom cotton offering a smooth tight weave. Mandala circle pattern in indigo blue, gold, crimson red and olive green on tannish background. All panels are sold individually, duplicates are available. They are colorfast, pre-shrunk and can be machine washed on cool/gentle and tumble dried. Kalamkari is a combination of hand painting and block printing. The art of Kalamkari demands a lot of treatment before and after the painting and block printing is completed on the cotton fabric. Hence Kalamkari is a laborious and time consuming process. The Masulipatnam style of Kalamkari usually has delicate Persian motifs like trees, creepers, flowers and leaves. There's a definite Dutch influence which may be traced back to the nineteenth century when there was great demand for Kalamkari from Europe. Today, Kalamkari is still practiced by a number of small families in and around the old fishing port of Masulipatnam, Andhra Pradesh in India. The intricate designs, elaborate borders and understanding of balanced composition have made Kalamkari one of the most desirable styles of Indian printing. Many of our panels have matching tapestry - spreads to match for a great ensemble.
