The A-7D Corsair II version was a subsonic attack aircraft that conducted close
air support strafing missions during the late years of the Vietnam War.
After 1972 they flew out of Korat, Thailand for the "sandy mission" of CAP,
protecting helicopters rescuing downed pilots.
The A-7D plane was equipped with a more powerful engine and a 20mm M61 rotary
Vulcan cannon. This aircraft served in the close air support role and CAP role
over South Vietnam until 1971, and Cambodia thru 1975.
