it looks like they were original ‘ black leather ‘ now slightly faded
( not the brown WWI type )
These were made WITHOUT the sheep fleece backing ( pre 1904 )
Indian wars / Spanish American war ?
copper rivets firmly secure the iron ring to the leather backing disk
the disk is about 7” in diameter

the ring is not badly rusted or pitted
copper rivets attach the ring to the leather body
