How It Works

The Ceramic Three-Way Catalyst operates through three simultaneous chemical reactions:

Oxidation of Carbon Monoxide (CO):
$2CO + O₂ → 2CO₂$
Oxidation of Hydrocarbons (HC):
$C_xH_y + O₂ → CO₂ + H₂O$
Reduction of Nitrogen Oxides (NOx):
$2NO + 2CO → N₂ + 2CO₂$

These reactions occur on the surface of the catalyst's precious metal coating, effectively reducing harmful emissions from the exhaust.
