Honore Daumier (1808-1879) was a French printmaker, caricaturist, painter and sculptor whose many works offer commentary on social and political life in France in the 19th Century. He is best known for his caricatures of political figures and satires on behavior of his countrymen, particularly lawyers and the justice system. In 1831, Daumier gowned Charles Philipon's publication "La Caricature" which launched his 40-year career as a comic artist.
