The Grand Antique Mall, located in Cincinnati, Ohio, presents an antique, solid brass, pharmacy mortar & pestle. Circa: 1890. The mortar features a flared lip, rectangular handles, and both interior and exterior engraved bands. The mortar’s bottom has an engraved number 7, in the margin, outside a series of 5 engraved rings. The pestle is 8.5 inches long and has an engraved number 6 toward one end (view photo #2), and features engraved horizontal bands, a raised center, and 2 round, slightly convex “barbell” ends. Both have a fine, deep gold patina. The historic set is entirely functional. Perfect for collectors of medical and apothecary artifacts. A fine historic gift for medical and pharmaceutical school graduates and, of course, the mortar and pestle makes a superb gift for anyone in the medical or related professions.
