This is a STYLE-3K made in 2009. Martin ukuleles have a long history, with the STYLE-3K having been produced since the 1920s and appearing in catalogs until around 1990.
Later, vintage Martin ukuleles became popular on the market, and around 2008, Martin released a reissue (reproduction) model with traditional 1920s specifications. This 3K was made in 2009 and is one of the first models after the re-production.
The model name and serial number are engraved on the inner neck block, and this is a well-made soprano ukulele that has been carefully handcrafted in the Martin Custom Shop.
The body top, sides, and back are made of beautifully grained Hawaiian koa wood, with an ebony fingerboard.
This guitar has been faithfully redesigned to resemble the original vintage guitar, with no headstock logo, an engraved logo on the headstock back, an ivory cell ornament on the top end, a stripe in the center of the fingerboard, and square-slotted abalone position markers. These specifications faithfully reproduce the early 1920s model.
The tuning machines have been replaced with high-precision GOTOH models, and pitch is stable.
Although it has been about 15 years since it was new, it has been a well-cared-for instrument.
There are a few pen-sized scratches on the side of the fingerboard on the 1st string side of the body top, caused by playing, and a 1.5cm string scratch behind the 1st string on the bridge. These are the only visible scratches, and the body and neck are completely free of noticeable scratches or cracks. The fingerboard and neck back are in excellent condition.
There is no sign of fret wear, and the string height is set low for easy playability, so it will be maintenance-free for the foreseeable future.
Despite its soprano size, it has plenty of volume, producing a clear, high-quality tone with a sweeter nuance than mahogany models, typical of koa wood.
This ukulele offers stable playability, allowing you to play smoothly all the way up to the high positions. It's been about 15 years since it was new, and since it's currently in spot production, it's unlikely you'll find a used one on the market.
Because the tuning pegs have been replaced, we're offering it at a bargain price below the current used market price. It comes with an original hard case. We recommend this ukulele to anyone looking for a beautiful, high-quality, pre-war-style 3K ukulele made from koa wood that's practical.
