Hideaki Nakano was a philatelic cover artist during the years of 1980 and 2010.  He produced a large range of different cover designs with many themes: humorous, bizarre, photos, protest, political commentary and more. Many were constructed to have a function, movable to expose additional information and or have a 3 D "pop-up" fashion. 

One of his early specialties was the use of origami and later in his career he went to using large envelopes, some with many stamps and cancels from all countries. His covers were hand colored, and stamped with his family mark in red and signed by the artist. 

His covers also incorporated the use of first day cancelations. His first US FDC was for the Coral Reefs stamps (Aug. 1980) and with the Everett Dirksen stamp (Dec. 1980), he started numbering his covers and using the designation "H.N. Local Post (HNLP). Most of the stamps used were also had a perfin HN cancellation.

Hideaki D Nakano was born on March 23, 1935 and died 11/4/2013 in Detroit, MI, his home town
