DescriptionUncommon mid-19th century (1841-1862) hand colored Russian lithograph with gilt highlights titled “Officer of the Leib Company in the Cavalier Uniform, from 1742 to 1762.” Illustration by Russian artist Ivan Terbenev for the publication titled Historical Description of Clothing and Arms of the Russian Troops by A.V. Viskovatov, published from 1841 to 1862 in 30 volumes. This illustration would have been from Volume III as Figure 371, published by Chirikov & Borisov, St. Petersburg. Russian text below image reads: ОФИЦЕР ЛЕЙБ-КОМПАНИИ в Кавалергардском уборе, с 1742 до 1762 года. Good condition with tanning from old mat window, scratch from back of print at right of figure shows through to front, nicely applied hand coloring with bright gilt highlights, paper shows light soiling/aging overall, one small tear at left edge, back of print well tanned with paper tape remnants from old mounting. Measures 14 3/8 x 10 3/16 inches.
