Vintage 1874 Corning Free Academy diploma for Lucy Maud Berry. Embellished with a beautiful steel engraving of industrious women on velum. Measures 21 ½ x 17 3/4 inches, shows some aging and light creases from being rolled up with rubbing/bumping to edges/corners and rubbing/buckling around worn, applied gold seal. Certificate seal reads Board of Education, Corning, New York.

Lucy Maud Berry (1856-1932) was the daughter of Samuel Spicer Berry (1820-1906) and Olive Elizabeth Read (1833-1885) who moved to their Corning farm in 1871. Her brothers were General Lucien G. Berry (1863-1937) and Charles Spencer Berry (1858-1885).
