located at the middle of the Appalachians in TN and NC and is administered by America's

National Parks agency the NPS.

The park preserves and interprets this 187,000 acre section of old growth forest in the Appalachian Mountains with  lakes and waterfalls, bears, deer, wild turkey and other wildlife. The Appalachian Trail travels through part of the park, see the trail movie "Walk in the Woods".

There is a visitor center with a museum and gift shop.
