Born in 1921, Preston Love has been a professional sideman and saxophone balladeer since the heyday of the big band era. He was a member of the bands of Nat Towles, Lloyd Hunter, Snub Mosely, Lucky Millinder, Fats Waller and Count Basie before becoming a bandleader himself and playing with Lena Horne, his friends Johnny Otis and Wynonie Harris, with whom he had several hits, many of which are considered the beginnings of rock n' roll. The CD opens with the title track,OMAHA BLUES, a blues as easy as a bend in the Platte River and as smokey as midwestern barbecue, a sound as clean and full as a Nebraska summer sky. A stand-out cut is Count Basie's classic "Swingin' The Blues," on which Love replicates the whole sax section, overdubbing two altos and two tenors. The remainder of the album is just as fine, either swinging hard, as on the rhythm and bebop number "When You Know You Know," or swaying low on such classic ballads as "Stormy Weather," featuring Mr. Love on vocals. The highlight of the CD is Love's playing and it's a joy to hear it released on this recording. This recording is a fitting tribute to the legend of Preston Love.

I will play grade on certain items only - it is just impossible for me to play grade everything I put on EBAY. MINT means factory sealed, never opened or played. NM is opened but in visually brand new, out-of-the-packaging clean condition. NM- is not NM! Its a grade above VG++ and below Near Mint - it does not imply perfect. In my terminology Scratches are feeler type and Scuffs are just cosmetic and usually inaudible.
