7 vol. Set The Dispatches and Letters of Vice Admiral Lord Viscount Nelson

You are buying 7 vol. Set The Dispatches and Letters of Vice Admiral Lord Viscount Nelson, with notes by Sir Nicholas Harris Nicolas, G.C.M.G. Henry Colburn, Publishers, London published the set 1845 - 1846. Attached to the front left end papers of all 7 volumes is Robert Biddulph Phillipps, Esq. of Longworth, Herefordshire bookplate. He served as a member of parliament. The family motto is Flect Sed Non Frangi (Bend But not be Broken ). For a 177 year old set, the books are in good condition.

Volume 1: 1777 to 1794

The interior is in good condition. The interior is shaken; but because of the Smyth Sewn binding, the signatures are firmly attached. There is considerable foxing of the frontispiece and title page, and a shadow of the frontispiece on the title page. The cover is in fair condition. It shows wear along the edges, and chipping and wear to the spine (see picture). The book is 6 1/8x 9 1/8” tall and 509 pages. The frontispiece is a portrait of Vice Admiral Lord Viscount Nelson with considerable foxing. Below the picture is a reproduction of the note sent to artist from Frances Nelson complimenting the artist. It must have been written prior to her husband meeting “that Hamilton woman”.

Volume 2: 1795 to 1797

The interior is in very good condition. The interior is tight and clean. The cover is in fair to good- condition. It shows rear along the edges, and chipping and wear to the spine (see picture). The book is 6 1/8” x 9 1/8” tall and 495 pages. In front of the book, is a facsimile of letter from Nelson.

Volume 3: 1798 to 1799

The interior is in very good condition. The interior is tight and clean. The cover is in good- condition. It shows rear along the edges, and chipping and wear to the spine (see picture). The book is 6 1/8” x 9 1/8” tall and 527 pages.

Volume 4: 1799 to 1801
