Description: "Divi Andreae apost. martyrium" Print; Engraving by Giovanni Folo, Italian (1764 - 1836) After Domenico Zampieri, called Domenichino, Italian (Bologna, Italy 1581 - 1641 Naples, Italy); The print, published in Rome 1799 is derived from an engraving by Giovanni Volpato, is after the mural painting of The martyrdom of St. Andrew by Domenichino (Domenico Zampieri) in the church of San Gregorio Magno, Rome. Size: 32.5" W x 23.25" H. There are also minor tears in the piece and is very delicate, so would make a great collection to someone looking to preserve this piece.
Opinion: I do not believe this is an original. This item has been appraised and it is understood that it's a restrike from an unknown artist and believed to be created in the mid 19-century. This was also made more evident as the paper used in this particular piece was not laid paper, which was popular choice up to around 1810.
