In Karakura Town, a 15-year-old high school student Ichigo Kurosaki becomes a substitute Soul Reaper (Shinigami, literally, "Death God") when Rukia Kuchiki, a Soul Reaper, cannot fulfill her duties after engaging in battle with a particularly powerful Hollow.
