This is a previously-owned, adult-sized, black polka-dot hat with “Vans” printed on the front (Otto brand, 100% polyester). It is a trucker-styled cap with a curved peak, a mesh back, and a plastic-snap adjuster in back (to quickly fit most wearers).
The Van Doren Rubber Company, better known as “Vans,” has been, since 1966, a Southern California based manufacturer of sneakers, skate shoes and other shoe types catering primarily to the counter-culture market. They market heavily in the surfing and skateboarding areas and now produce additional items such as clothing and skateboarding accessories. The company found iconic success in their checkerboard pattern sneaker, worn by Sean Penn in Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Recently, Vans has opened retail stores containing large indoor skate parks and sponsored the Vans Warped Tour, a punk/ska music and extreme sports festival that has existed since 1995.
