For the Baseball Hobbyist. . . 1957-1958 P.C.L. "Popcorn" Card #92 - Earl Douglas AVERILL ~ San Diego Padres from scarce collector-issued set by Ed Broder in 1974 Little is known about this card and the set it comes from except that the card pictures a Pacific Coast League player from 1957 or '58 and was produced in the 1974 by collector and photography enthusiast Ed Broder. It is similar to (and probably inspired by) the popular Seattle popcorn cards, issued 1954-1968. The card measures approximately 2" by 3" and features a borderless (often miscut) black and white photograph on the front with player name/position, year/team, card number and set identification ("P.C.L. "Popcorn" Cards") on the reverse. There are no statistics and no manufacturer's copyright. The card stock is thin but reasonably sturdy. This card represents one of the only Pacific Coast League cards for many players featured in the 1957-1958 Popcorn set, is an interesting item for longtime followers of the old PCL and quite tough to find for a collector's issue. Look closely for familiar parts of long-departed ballyards. The subject is the son of Hall of Famer H. EARL AVERILL. Condition: Good - check the high-resolution scans, front and back. A burgundy background has been provided to assist in evaluating card edges and corners. Shipping OPTIONS are available - YOUR CHOICE of either eBay standard envelope service (ESE) which is cheaper with slower delivery or USPS Ground Advantage (more costly for single cards but much faster delivery). We also offer UNLIMITED singles (up to and including 8X10 inches in size) shipped via Ground Advantage for the one card rate. Both services include insurance but USPS Ground Advantage is considerably quicker, with fewer limitations. _______________________ Important: Shipping Information A goal has always been to keep shipping costs low. Our primary objective is to sell cards and other things of interest to baseball hobbyists - not make money by overcharging on shipping.
