Ron Johnson was born in Zamboanga City, Philippines on September 26, 1968. He studied Japanese water color painting from Yoshio Ikezaki in the early 1990s in Los Angeles. He later attended and graduated from The Pennsylvania Academy of The Fine Arts in 2000 where he received the Henry J. Scheidt Travel Scholarship amongst other honors. He now resides in Collingswood, NJ.
