Home of Robert E. Lee

Arlington County

Early days in Arlington County, Virginia, are recalled through a mixture of colorful tales and factual data in this spiral-bound booklet, comprised of excerpts from two rare old books: A History of Arlington County Virginia by Dorothy Ellis Lee and Virginia, a Guide to the Old Dominion, a WPA Writer's Program publication.

The booklet, printed on 60# opaque paper, contains 84 pages. However, because we use a 2-up format on 8 1/2" x 11" paper, it has the equivalent of over 160 pages from the original books. The tri-colored front cover is protected with a vinyl sheet.

Chapter titles include:  It's Boundaries, Area and Evolution; the First 150 years; 100 Years as a County; Political; Civic Utilities; Earliest Homes and Points of Historic Interest; Education, Religion and Conclusion. and other interesting bits of history and trivia.

The WPA excerpt includes stops at the site of the Clay-Randolph Duel, Arlington National Cemetery and Arlington House, and Fort Myer.

The book is illustrated with drawings by Lydia Keown Feidler.

Wouldn't this make a unique gift?
