Mike Mendel is a prominent Fine Art photographer that has pieces featured in some the finest institutions in the United States and abroad. In 1975 while still young and before his popularity took off he created what is perhaps the most unusual set of "baseball cards" ever made and distributed them in packs that could be purchased with a small piece of bubble gum at galleries for $1 a pack. The cards featured 134 different prominent people in the Art Photography community dressed loosely as baseball players and "playing the game". Obviously these cards were a somewhat campy way to get exposure to the photography world but they have become their own niche that melds art and baseball cards in a strange but wonderful way. I really enjoy the cards. Artists included in this unusual set are Ansel Adams, William Eggleston, Minor White, and many others.
