" Le Quadrille. 1900. This is a decorative panel... with an interesting view of the cancan from the rear. From this vantage all we get is a hint of the swirl of white petticoats, yet it is enough to communicate the zest and energy of this French specialty. The title given to the artwork goes back to the name of the original dance for four couples from which the cancan evolved... Truchet was primarily a painter, but he also mastered the techniques of illustration, etching, and lithography and produced a few posters of undoubted merit. "
