Leeds United F.A Cup Winners Coin Display Gift Set 1972

Souvenir coin set to commemorate Leeds United's 1972 FA Cup triumph where they defeated Arsenal 1-0 in the Final at Wembley Stadium. The only goal of the game came from Allan Clarke in the 53rd minute with a diving header from a cross by Mick Jones to secure the club's first ever FA Cup title. Manager Don Revie's side, known for their uncompromising style, had overcome the reigning double-winners Arsenal in a fiercely contested final. The match marked the 100th anniversary of the FA Cup competition.

The display, sized 15cm x 10cm, contains a 1972 crown that is in UNC (Uncirculated) condition.

The product is supplied in a clear protective sleeve so both sides of the coin can be viewed.

Our manufacturing process includes a precision laser cutting method to create the necessary holes in each display for the required coins to be inserted and held, safely recessed, in the correct position.

This would make a wonderful gift for a Leeds United fan.

Leeds United beat Arsenal by the only goal of the match and thereby frustrated the Londoners' ambition to become the third club to return as Cup holders and win again for the second successive year, as Newcastle had done in 1952 and Tottenham in 1962.

Leeds were the better team all through. Their back four had no trouble in mastering the Arsenal attacks and obliterating the threat posed by strikers George and Radford. By contrast, the Leeds front runners, Jones and Clarke, continually harassed the Arsenal defence.

The Jones-Clarke combination produced a goal in the fifty third minute. Jones sent across a hard, shoulder high centre and 'Sniffer' Clarke headed powerfully past Barnett's left hand from fifteen yards.

A match began badly with a foul by Clarke on Ball in the first five seconds and the first of four bookings - McNab for bringing down Lorimer as early as the second minute.  Both sides had their moments. George's fierce volley cannoned back off the bar for Arsenal, and both Clarke and Lorimer struck the woodwork for Leeds.

It was United’s day though and Don Revie’s men collected the famous trophy for, so far, the one and only time in their history.
