Insel Meines Traums  (Island of My Dreams) etching hand painted in watercolors by the artist, 1986 signed, titled, and numbered lower margin recto total edition size of 60 as follows: 35 with Arabic numerals XIII with Roman numerals 12 artist proofs image size 33¼" x 21" (84.5 x 53.3 cm.) paper size 39" x 27" (99 x 68.6 cm.) Provenance:   acquired directly from the artist Literature:  Dietrich Schuchardt, Druckhaus Kaufmann, Germany, 1995, p.69 This artist's largest and most important hand painted etching -- a magnificent and impressive achievement! An etching of Dietrich Schuchardt is an original artwork in the strictest sense of the word. The artist engraves each etching by hand with an antique phonograph needle and copper plate. After the engraving has been completed, the copper plate is treated in an acid bath after which it can be inked and an individual print may be pulled. This "first state" etching is in black and white but the process is not complete.  Schuchardt then hand paints each impression one at a time with watercolors and gouache paint. As each etching is individually hand painted by the artist, no two impressions are exactly alike. The digital images in this listing are those of the actual artwork offered for sale.
