Farthing Meadows, Bridgnorth [Shropshire] 1697 - 1726 Group of Four Vellum Indentures

A fine quartet of indentures dated between 1697 - 1726, all concern several pieces of meadow land situated in the Oldbury Parish of Bridgnorth called Farthing Meadows. Several of the deeds give a good description of the adjoining lands. All in English on vellum. The lot comprises:

1697 (27th September) Lease for one year between William Haughton of “the Wyke” in “Shiffnall” (Shifnal), Jane Jone of Wellington (“widdow”) to John Pitt of Shifnal, for the sum of 5/-. Signed at the foot by Haughton and Jones, and with red wax seals affixed below. Titles and witness signatures to reverse. Approx. 395x250mm. (Without appended seals), light rubbing in places.

1697 (28th September) Conveyance between William Haughton of The Wyke in Shifnal, Jane Jones of Wellington to John Pitt of Shifnal. Printed titles at upper left corner, signed at the foot by Haughton and Jones and with red wax seal affixed below.  It additionally mentions the lease document (above) which was dated one day before this one. Approx. 630x500mm., light soiling.

1704 (March 18th) Feoffment between John Pitt of Shifnal and Lancelot Taylor of Bridgnorth for the sum of £450.10s., signed at the foot by John Pitt and with his monogramed red wax seal adjacent. Decorative hand drawn and dated initial letter at upper left. Approx. 740x450mm., minor soiling.

1726 (19th August) Mortgage Assignment between Thomas Gitton of Bridgnorth and William Cross “Appothecary”, also of Bridgnorth. It makes mention of an earlier indenture “bearing date the first day of this instant August” between Richard Creswell and Thomas Gitton. Signed at the foot by Gitton and with a red wax seal applied adjacent. Approx. 640x295mm., and in good order.
