How to Make Wheat Paste (Instructions)

You Will Need: Distilled water, clean utensils, saucepan or double boiler.

  1. Use only spotlessly clean utensils (do not wash with soap).
  2. Mix 1 part wheat starch with 4 parts distilled water.
  3. Let mixture stand for 20 minutes before cooking.
  4. Cook on medium heat, stirring constantly with a non-metal utensil.
  5. When paste thickens, reduce heat and continue stirring.
  6. Cook until paste becomes thick and translucent (about 30 minutes).
  7. Remove from heat and stir while cooling.
  8. Strain paste, then add distilled water slowly until consistency is like mayonnaise.
  9. Keep at room temperature and make small batches for best results.
