This is an antique African tribally made and used ceremonial ax from Burkina Faso, West Africa. This African artifact specimen is in great tribally used condition with a dark patina and carved geometrically designs to the wood which has some minor wear including a couple of stable cracks and the hand forged blade is very rusty from age. This antique axe has a handmade metal display stand which inserts into a hole which was drilled into the bottom handle of the ax which has a small metal tube inserted inside the hole which the display stands plug fits into for a very sturdy display. The display stand does have some scratches to the black surface paint.The axe is removable from the stand. This antique piece measures 25 inches tall mounted on the display stand by 14.20 inches wide and weighs 4 pounds 12 ounces. The base of the display stand measures 5 inches wide by 5 inches long.This is a rare West African ceremonial axe specimen which is very desirable and would make a fine addition to any African art collection.
