If you love to sing folk music, or play violin or folk harp, you might like to try this music in your next recital or performance. Katharine Tynan was a writer and poet who lived in Ireland and Great Britain in the mid 1800's to early 1900's. Her poems are lovely, and I decided to set some of them to music. Katharine was born in Ireland, and her poem The Wind That Shakes The Barley tells of her longing for Ireland while she was living in London. The music is pentatonic in the key of C. There are only 5 notes in the piece (in several octaves), simplistic sounding and easy to perform, yet mature and emotional. The voice part has a range from middle C to E above the staff. This is a fairly easy range for an amateur singer. I have included the chords in the event that a harpist is not available and you want to do the performance with a keyboard player or guitarist. I think you will really like this piece if you like the modal celtic sounding music. Check out my other settings of Katharine Tynan poems. All are for soprano, violin, and folk harp. They would make a great set for performance. The music will come to you as a score in a hard stock cover (signed by me, the composer!) for the singer to hold and perform from.
