This peaceful lovely song is a setting of Katharine Tynan's poem, "Sheep
And Lambs." I discovered Katharine Tynan's poetry quite by
accident....once again, a real perk of the trade...I buy and sell
antique and collectible items, and always seem to find something to
inspire my next composition in a boxlot from an auction. I discovered
Katharine Tynan's poems when I browsed through an old school reading
book and read "My Little Farm", a truncated version of "When A Little
Farm I Keep". I researched Katharine Tynan and her work, and I have
decided to set more of her poetry to song, so that audiences can enjoy
her work. "Sheep And Lambs" is the second of the Tynan poems I have set
to music. The theme intertwines the idea of the sheep and their little
lambs with the Lamb Of God. The little lambs were tired, and the Lamb
of God suffered. Both found rest on a cool green hill. This is a great
little pensive piece to use in church for the Easter season. The work
will come to you as a score in a hard stock cover (and of course, I will
sign it!) for the soprano to use, and separate parts for the harp and
the violin. The violin part can be played on flute as well (up an
octave). The piece is in C Major and the range of the voice goes from
middle C to third space C, just one octave - a very comfortable range
for an amateur singer with a pretty voice. The folk harp part is super
simple, and can be played on a 22 string harp - I wrote it with the
amateur harpist in mind. The chordal structure is so easy that it can
be adapted to simple chord strumming on guitar. Simplistic music can be
so peaceful sounding, and this piece certainly is just that. Shipping
is $3.50 in the U.S., or $7.00 overseas. See my other listed
compositions. You might want to try several, and if so, let me know and
I will adjust shipping according to weight. Thanks for looking at my
music and my store. Keep practicing. It is fun to play new music, and I
do love to write it!
