In the sequel, 'Ghostbusters 2' (1989), the Ghostbusters are struggling to get work as they find themselves being sued by municipal authorities. When a physical embodiment of evil is discovered lurking beneath the city, however, their services are once again required. Finally, in 'Ghostbusters: Afterlife' (2021), following eviction, single mother Phoebe (Mckenna Grace) and her two children take refuge in her late father's derelict farmhouse in rural Oklahoma. After a few unexplained earthquakes are linked to an old mine nearby, the children learn the truth about their grandfather's history as a Ghostbuster.
