You may have seen this unusual cocktail mixer before, but I doubt you've ever seen it in this exceptional condition.
Rather than the standard cocktail shaker top, it features an integrated internal plunger/mixer mechanism capped with a distinctive teardrop-shaped black wooden handle.
Unique Characteristics
- The Mechanism: The black wood handle connects to an internal metal rod and perforated disc plunger. Instead of shaking the container vigorously, the user pumps the handle up and down to quickly agitate, mix, and chill ingredients inside the glass. It double-functions as an ice crusher or drink muddler.
- The Glass Base: Modeled in Hazel-Atlas's iconic heavy, vibrant cobalt blue glass.
- The Graphics: It features white, era-specific geometric graphics displaying 10 classic pre-war cocktail recipes directly on the glass body: Clover Club, Bacardi, Between The Sheets, Pink Lady, Orange Blossom, Bronx, Alexander, Side Car, Daquiri, and Jack Rose.
A very similar cocktail mixer is prominently displayed on page 158 in Stephen Visakay's The Cocktail Shaker.
It stands 12" tall and is 3.75" in diameter at the top. It is stamped "PAT. PENDING".
This item has been in my personal collection since 1988 and has been very well cared for. It is in excellent condition for its 90-plus years of age, with minor flaws as noted. A similar item in lesser condition is currently listed on 1st Dibs for $550.00.
