Tall trees and dense autumn foliage surround the water, painted in a distinctive muted palette of dusky pink, cream, grey, black and soft purple. Expressive brushwork, palette-knife detailing and areas of textured impasto give the woodland plenty of depth and movement.
The painting is signed by the artist at the lower right. The reverse is signed and inscribed “M. Ćosić, Korčula, 8.9.85.” Korčula is now part of Croatia and, when the painting was created in 1985, formed part of the former Yugoslavia.
The inscription may record where the painting was created, although the precise woodland location shown has not been confirmed.
The full identity of M. Ćosić has not been established, so the painting is offered without a further artist attribution.
Presented in a substantial wooden frame which has been recently refinished in black due to wear and damage to its previous finish. The contrasting cream inner slip has been retained. Ready to hang.

The painting displays well, with no obvious holes, tears or repairs noted. There are minor surface marks and signs of age consistent with a painting dating from 1985.
The wooden frame had considerable cosmetic wear and damage to its previous finish and has therefore been resprayed black. The renewed finish presents well, although some underlying imperfections, small knocks and age-related marks may remain visible.
