🔥 1996 Pokémon Japanese Base Set – Arcanine No.059

This is an original Japanese Arcanine No.059 from the earliest era of the Pokémon Card Game, released in 1996.

This particular example is the highly collectible No Rarity Symbol version, representing the earliest printing of the original Japanese Base Set.

But there is another fascinating feature that makes this early Arcanine especially interesting to vintage Pokémon collectors:

⭐ ICONIC JAPANESE NAME ERROR – 「ウィンディ」

The Pokémon’s correct official Japanese name is:

ウインディ

However, this early card incorrectly prints the name as:

ウィンディ

The difference is subtle but historically fascinating: the small ィ was mistakenly used instead of the full-size イ.

Importantly, this error was not exclusive to the No Rarity Symbol printing. The incorrect 「ウィンディ」 spelling continued to appear on later rarity-symbol printings of the original card before the name was corrected to the official 「ウインディ」 spelling on cards from later series.

This makes the original No.059 Arcanine an interesting piece of early Pokémon TCG history — combining the desirable No Rarity Symbol first printing with a genuine early Japanese name error.

The artwork is illustrated by legendary Pokémon artist Ken Sugimori.

🔍 Condition

HP (Heavily Played)

The card shows noticeable signs of wear consistent with long-term handling and play.

Both the front and back have surface scratches, scuffing, hairline marks, and visible edge and corner wear. There are also several areas showing bending/pressure-related marks and linear creases or impressions, as visible in the photos.

Despite the overall wear, the card remains fully intact and the artwork, text, and colors still present well for a vintage card of this age.

The condition has been evaluated based on eBay’s official trading card condition guidelines. Please review all photos carefully, as they show the actual condition of the card and form an important part of the description.

A well-loved vintage Arcanine with plenty of authentic age and character — a solid option for collectors who prioritize owning an original-era example over high-grade condition.
