A beautifully classical Wedgwood blue Jasperware bowl, finished with an elegant silver-plated rim, showcasing the timeless neoclassical aesthetic that made Wedgwood famous around the world.
The bowl is produced in the iconic cobalt blue Jasperware body, decorated with delicate white relief scenes of classical figures, trees, and draped robes inspired by ancient Greek and Roman art. These sculptural scenes wrap gracefully around the exterior, giving the piece the unmistakable look of traditional Wedgwood craftsmanship.
The addition of the silver plated rim elevates the bowl into a refined centrepiece suitable for display, fruit service, or decorative use in a period interior. These mounts were often added by silversmiths to make Jasperware pieces suitable for formal dining tables during the Victorian and Edwardian eras.

This bowl was produced by Wedgwood, one of Britain’s most famous and influential pottery manufacturers.
The company was founded in 1759 by master potter Josiah Wedgwood, whose innovations transformed ceramic production in Britain and Europe. Wedgwood developed Jasperware in the 1770s, a revolutionary stoneware with a smooth matte finish designed to resemble ancient carved cameos.
Jasperware became instantly fashionable across Europe and was widely collected by aristocracy and royalty. Its decoration drew inspiration from classical antiquity, particularly Greek and Roman mythology, aligning with the strong neoclassical tastes of the late 18th and 19th centuries.
The impressed base mark reading “WEDGWOOD – MADE IN ENGLAND” indicates production after 1891, when British pottery manufacturers began including the country of origin for export markets.
The silver mount is stamped EPNS, meaning Electro Plated Nickel Silver, a common high-quality silver plating method used by British silversmiths from the mid-19th century onward.
Wedgwood’s Jasperware became so admired that it was collected by many prominent historical figures. Even today, museums and royal collections hold examples of these elegant blue relief wares. The style was so influential that it inspired countless neoclassical designs across Europe.
