Found at an old estate in Centralia, Washington. Lovely example of this 1898-1902 SAW (Cuba, Philippines, Porto Rico) veterans medal. The U.S. used the "Porto Rico" spelling from 1898 to 1932, when it was officially changed to "Puerto Rico". The medal is all original with a nicervthan usual flag ribbon. Numbered on the reverse. Gorgeous detail. A very attractive medal. If this medal belonged to a Centralia man he would likely have been with Company M, 1st Washington Volunteer Infantry.
