Jacques de Loustal’s body of work is inextricably linked to jazz music. Most notably, Loustal and writer Philippe Paringaux were responsible for the real-world resurgence of the legendary French tenor saxophonist Barney Wilen.Wilen, who famously recorded the soundtrack for Louis Malle's 1958 film Ascenseur pour l'échafaud alongside Miles Davis, had completely faded from the public eye by the 1980s. In 1986, Loustal and Paringaux created the serialized comic strip Barney et la Note Bleue for À Suivre magazine, loosely based on Wilen's chaotic life. Discovering he was the subject of a popular comic, a revitalised Wilen returned to the studio to record a companion album titled La Note Bleue (1987), using Loustal’s artwork for the cover. The album won the Grand Prix de l'Académie Charles Cros, sparking a major late-career comeback.Printed in 1987—the exact year of Wilen's celebrated musical rebirth—Careless Love stands as a prime example of Loustal's dedication to jazz culture.This specific edition is hand-signed by the artist in pencil in the bottom right corner, distinguishing it from standard open-edition posters.
