This is an elegant Art Nouveau Sterling Silver Ring Tree or Jewellery Stand. It has a circular base, weighted for stability, with a typically Nouveau sweeping floral design on the top. The tree has a bulbous base and five branches for rings or other small items of jewellery.

The ring tree was made in Birmingham by W.J. Myatt & Co and dates to 1919. The firm was founded in Birmingham by William James Myatt in 1895, initially as electroplaters. They became W.J. Myatt & Co in 1899, registered a silver mark at the Birmingham assay office and went on to open a showroom in London’s Hatton Garden. After WW2 they ceased producing Sterling Silver but continued to produce electroplate and pewter.

Condition is good, with just a slight kink in the top two branches and the overall superficial surface wear that has to be anticipated after over 105 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The ring tree stands 7.3cm / 2.9ins high and is 5.5cm / 2.2ins in diameter across the bsase. It weighs in at 58.6g / 2.07oz but this does of course include the weighting material in the base.

The hallmarks, on the upper side of the base, are nice and clear to read with just a little rubbing to the makers' mark. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter u for 1919 and the W J M & Co in a shield makers' mark for W.J. Myatt & Co.
