Description
Lift Height: 2.5 inch Front
Spacer Thickness: 1.57 inch (40 mm)
Material: Steel
Package Included: 2x Strut Spacers
Note: With an independent suspension, the amount of lift can be significantly greater than the thickness of the lift spacer.
Calculating the amount of lift to expect for an independent suspension application can be a little less straightforward. Independent suspension designs typically consist of at least one control arm, the inside of which is secured to the frame while the outside is attached to the wheel. It is supported by a spring or strut mounted someplace between the wheel and the frame. Suspension travel is accomplished by the control arm pivoting at the point where it is mounted to the frame. Since the wheel is mounted farther from the control arm pivot than the strut is, it experiences a longer travel than the strut does. For example, installing a 1.5” thick strut spacer on independently suspended vehicles can act as 3” lift kits.
What are strut spacers?
The most common application for strut spacers is with stock trucks. Many customers use them to lift the front-end, and level out the overall stance of the vehicle. If you simply want to increase the available ground clearance in a cost effective manner coil strut spacers are for you. One other advantage of coil strut spacers is the fact they won’t alter the ride characteristics of your factory suspension, and they are easy to install at home with basic hand tools and mechanical knowledge.
Installation
1. Park vehicle on a level surface and chock rear wheels. Jack up the front of the vehicle and place jack stands under the frame rails.
2. Remove the tires and wheels.
3. Remove the ABS line and bracket from the upper control arm.
4. Disconnect driver and passenger side sway bar end links.
5. Remove lower strut mounting bolts.
6. Pry up ABS retaining clips from the upper strut mounting nuts.
7. Remove upper strut mounting nuts.
8. Remove entire strut assembly from vehicle
9. Place strut spacer on top of strut.
10. Loosen upper ball joint nut. Do not remove from knuckle.
11. Using a hammer, hit the side of your knuckle to separate ball joint from it.
12. Place a jack under your lower control arm to support and remove your upper ball joint.
13. Lower suspension slightly and reinstall strut assembly using the new hardware provided in your kit.
14. Once installed, jack up your suspension from your lower control arm
15. Using a pry bar on your upper control arm, Place ball joint back into knuckle
16. Tighten upper ball joint to factory torque spec.
17. Reattach ABS line and bracket and sway bar end links
18. Take vehicle to an alignment shop to avoid improper tire wear and poor ride quality.
